Wedding Signing Songs: What Adelaide Couples Play During the Register

By Ryley Smithson, Tennyson Events · Updated October 2026

The most popular wedding signing songs on our run sheets are "Signed, Sealed, Delivered (I'm Yours)" and "A Thousand Years", each chosen by 3 of our couples. 73 of the 183 couples we looked at (2017 to 2026) named a signing song, and between them they picked 122 different songs. There's no clear winner. That's good news: you have room to choose what suits you.

What the signing song is for

It covers the quiet gap while you sign, often with your witnesses, while guests wait and photographers work. A good signing song is easy to listen to and doesn't compete with what's happening.

Many couples choose something with a soft feel and a steady build, and some choose an acoustic cover of a favourite. 4 of our couples named violin versions, including "Fairytale", "Love Story", "Young and Beautiful" and "I Wanna Be Yours". Instrumental and violin versions work well because guests can chat without competing with lyrics.

How to choose your signing song

  • Think about length. Signing usually takes a few minutes, so plan for one song and a second ready as backup rather than a long playlist. If it runs long, we fill the gap.

  • Match the mood to your ceremony. If your walk and exit are big, signing can be your quiet one. See our wedding ceremony music guide for how the moments fit together.

  • Check the lyrics. Even a sweet-sounding song can have a lyric you wouldn't want played in front of your grandparents.

  • Choose a version, not just a song. Acoustic, piano and violin covers change the feel completely. A cover with a long intro can leave the first minute in near silence, so listen all the way through.

  • Tell your celebrant. We talk through the running order and music with them, so the song starts as pens come out. The celebrant will usually say something clear, and I'll go through the ceremony with them beforehand so we know how it all lays out. If the signing runs long and we run out of music, I'll play something to fill the gap until we're ready to move on. That's why it's important to meet up and chat music with couples, so I know what to put in that gap.

Avoid doubling up with another moment

Because the signing song is chosen from such a wide pool, repeats are easy. Several couples' signing songs also show up elsewhere on our lists, like "Can't Help Falling in Love" (9 couples chose it for the bride's walk) and "Signed, Sealed, Delivered" (4 chose it for the exit). If you love a song that's popular elsewhere, pick one moment for it. See walk down the aisle songs and wedding recessional songs for the competing lists. We don't need to use the same song twice. There are plenty of songs out there.

Quick answers

What are good wedding signing songs?

"Signed, Sealed, Delivered (I'm Yours)" and "A Thousand Years" were each chosen by 3 of our couples, and 11 more songs were chosen by 2.

What songs are played during the signing of the register?

Mostly soft, familiar songs. Among our couples: "Better Together" by Us the Duo, "Latch" by Disclosure and "Only Love" by Ben Howard.

How long is a signing song?

Signing is usually a few minutes, so one song of around three to four minutes is enough, with a second ready to go.

Can signing songs be instrumental?

Yes. 4 of our couples named violin versions, and 2 named Hans Zimmer pieces.

Do we need a signing song at all?

Most of our couples did: 73 of 183 named one. If your celebrant signs the register quietly after the ceremony, you can skip it.
